Multimedia Blocks

Multimedia courses are divided into blocks of courses. Students can enroll in the entire block of courses or take individual Multimedia classes as electives.

What students do in the program mirrors the creativity and complexity found in the industry. Students work individually and in small design teams to develop effective communication designs for a diverse audience using various media. Final portfolios and demo reels will contain life drawing, graphic design, 3-D models, interactive productions, animations, and digital video "shorts." Work examples reflect the demands of employers in every field of multimedia.

The blocks of courses make up a sequence of skill-building experiences beginning with the Foundation I Block, proceeding on through Foundation II and then on to the areas of concentration. As students complete the courses in each block, they receive a certificate and their transcript is stamped with an official notation. Students may choose the blocks of instruction best suited to their individual needs. The courses within each block pertain to one another. For example, students studying experimental animation will also learn 3D animation software. While students may enroll in the entire block to qualify for the Multimedia certificate, any student can choose Multimedia courses as electives.

FOUNDATION BLOCK I: INTRODUCTION TO GRAPHIC DESIGN FOR MULTIMEDIA

Skills Learned: Computer Graphics, Painting, 2-D Design, Drawing and Rendering, Visual analysis

Software: Adobe Photoshop, Intro to Adobe Illustrator

About Foundation Block I: LAMC's multimedia students become artists first and foremost. Color theory, graphic design, drawing, and painting are an integral part of every course because the industry tells us they want artists who use computers, not computer geeks who dabble with clip art. Students explore drawing, painting, and computer manipulation of images.
